Market women at Berekum Rawlings Park Market on Wednesday honoured the vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
They installed her as market queen mother.
The deputy market queen mother of the Berekum Rawlings Park Market, Madam Fati Bintu, described Prof. Opoku-Agyemang as a distinguished personality who has championed the cause of women for a very long time.
She said the vice presidential candidate cares about the progress of market women, hence the honour conferred on her.
Madam Bintu was hopeful that the NDC would form the next government and would build ultra-modern market for the traders.
For her part, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was on a campaign tour of the Bono Region, commended the market women for acknowledging and honouring her commitment to promoting the cause of women.
She stated that through the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, the next NDC government will provide loans to support market women to help them expand their businesses and make them more financially empowered
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the next NDC government would also help build the market at the Rawlings Park which is currently in a deplorable state.
She therefore urged the market women to vote for NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
