Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has hailed the establishment of the Fire Service Academy and Training School in Wungu as a historic achievement. As the second training school in the country, this facility marks a significant milestone for the Ghana National Fire Service, the Wungu community, and the entire nation.
During the inauguration of the first phase of the school on Friday, January 19, 2024, Dr. Mahamudu emphasized the importance of equipping personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent and combat fires effectively.
He further explained that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government has prioritized the Ghana National Fire Service, leading to the decision to establish three additional fire training schools. This decision was made due to the inadequacy of the sole fire training school in Accra.
“This marks an important milestone for the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS), the Wungu community and our dear nation Ghana as a whole. This is historic. Why do I say so? When we came into office in January 17, there was only one fire academy training school in Ghana, just one at Jamestown. We made the decision that given the importance of the fire service in Ghana, it was important to increase the number of fire training schools in Ghana. So we made the decision to increase the number from one to four,” Dr Bawumia explained in his speech at the commissioning ceremony.
The Chief Fire Officer( CFO) Julius A. Kuunuor expressed gratitude to the Government for the establishment of the school, adding that the facility will enhance training of personnel of the service.
