Mr. Enock Sarfo, an Assembly Member for Agogo Obuase Gyedim in the Asante Akyim North Municipal Assembly, is accusing the Assembly of paying for an unspecified quantity of free cashew seedlings given to farmers in the area by the former DCE for Bosome-Freho, Hon. Yaw Danso.
Speaking on Oyerepa FM’s evening news on Thursday, April 13th, 2023, Mr. Sarfo indicated that he informed the NADMO coordinator and some people close to the MP for the constituency, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, about the free cashew seedlings in the Bosome-Freho District.
“I went to Bosome-Freho together with the NPP constituency secretary, and we found out that there were free cashew seedlings in that district. So we informed the NADMO coordinator and some people in my district about the availability of the free cashew seedlings at Bosome-Freeho, so they went for it.
The former DCE for Bosome-Freho indicated that the people of his district were more interested in cocoa, which is why the cashew seedlings were given to Asante Akyim North District freely. The assembly member explained.
According to him, he sighted a document that shows the assembly paid for the cashew seedlings that were given to them for free.
“At the time the MP’s common fund was in, I saw a list of documents that show the assembly has paid an amount of one hundred and twenty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 125,000.00) from the MP’s common fund for the cashew seedlings, which were given to us for free.” The Assembly Member disclosed
The Asante Akyim North MCE, Hon. Oti Boateng, said in a phone interview with Oyerepa News’ Kwaku Ansah that he was unable to confirm at the time of the interview with any documents whether the Assembly indeed paid for the cashew seedlings, which were given out freely to the farmers.
Meanwhile, the MCE conceded to personally accessing some of the seedlings from the former DCE of Bosome-Freho, Hon Yaw Danso, free of charge.
