The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame constituency in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu, has expressed worry over the decision of Alan Kyerematen to resign from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in a conversation with Akua Asiedua on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu indicated that the former trade minister, Alan Kyerematen, could have become president of Ghana if he had been patient enough.
“I said something initially; I suspected that as we went, Bawumia would portray himself, so we should join Bawumia and Alan as running mates. If you are a vice president, you become president. I believe in Alan that he could become president if he had waited. Like Mahama, he went to bed as vice president and woke up the next day to become president. I have not said Alan doesn’t have any credentials.
In terms of standing up for the party, both in opposition and in power, when I was a minority leader, the only person who was assisting me was the then running mate, Bawumia,” he revealed.
The majority leader in parliament said Alan Kyerematen’s decision was rushed.
“I believe if Alan had waited, with time, he would have projected himself. I consider what he has done very unfortunate; maybe he did not think about the repercussions well, but that is his decision. I am still hoping that he rescinds his decision, as he did in 2008.”He said.
