Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Director General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), has emphasized the importance of strategic planning and governance reform for successful TVET policy implementation in Africa.
Ghana’s experience serves as a model, with its five-year strategic plan (2018-2022) leading to significant advancements, including new agencies and a sector-wide regulator ¹.
Dr. Kyei Asamoah stressed the importance of concurrent policy and document development alongside strategic planning. This integrated approach ensures a cohesive and effective TVET system.
UNESCO launched a strategy for TVET (2022-2029), focusing on youth employment, equity, and green economies. This initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4.
Other African countries, like The Gambia, have also developed TVET policies (2021-2030) aligned with national development plans and education sector policies.
By adopting strategic planning and governance reform, African governments can replicate Ghana’s success and create a robust TVET system.
