A political analyst, Mr. Yiadom Boakye, has dismissed claims made by certain political figures suggesting that the criminal case involving James Gyakye Quayson would follow the same path as that of Adamu Dramani Sakande.
During a conversation with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Mr. Boakye Boakye argued that the two cases are fundamentally different and anyone claiming they are the same is mistaken.
“Every indication proves that the two cases are not the same; nobody can say they are the same. Anyone suggesting a common denominator is mistaken,” Boakye stated.
“In Adamu’s case, he was immediately charged criminally, with no civil case against him. However, in this situation, there was a civil case, and Gyakye Quayson has already served the penalties associated with it,” he explained.
Mr. Boakye clarified that if the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, fails to establish that Gyakye Quayson had criminal intent and still proceeded to contest the election, then he will not be imprisoned as some factions in the political sphere claim.
“In a criminal case, it must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt whether he intended to deceive the nation. If the Attorney-General cannot prove this, even though the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state and imposed a sentence, the High Court can choose to deviate. This is because the High Court is handling a criminal case, whereas the Supreme Court dealt with a civil case. Consequently, it is incorrect to say that both courts are dealing with the same case,” he elaborated.
In response to recent statements by the Minister for Trade and Industries, KT Hammond, who suggested that James Gyakye Quayson would face imprisonment similar to Adamu Sakande, the political analyst cautioned against drawing such conclusions.
“We cannot jump to that conclusion because both cases have different trajectories. In Adamu Sakande’s case, he possessed three passports at one point. He had”
