Joseph Azumah, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Adansi Akrofrom Constituency on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, has warned his fellow politicians.
In a recent interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time hosted by Akua Asieduwaa, Azumah lamented that the actions of some politicians have led to widespread disillusionment among Ghanaians.
According to Azumah, the constant failure of politicians to fulfil their campaign promises has eroded trust and interest in politics.
He cautioned that if this trend continues, people may eventually stop attending campaign rallies or listening to political messages. This, he warned, would have far-reaching consequences for the country’s democracy.
“A lot of politicians have made Ghanaians lose interest in politics. A time will come when no one will attend a campaign rally. No one will come out and listen to our message because the people are fed-up due to unfulfilled campaign promises.”Azumah said.
However, he expressed optimism that some politicians, including himself, are committed to changing the status quo.
He pledged to work tirelessly to regain the trust of the people and prove that politicians can be accountable and transparent.
Azumah’s comments come at a time when Ghana is grappling with the aftermath of the 2024 general elections. The elections saw the NDC making significant gains, with many of its candidates, including Azumah, winning seats in Parliament and for the first time, an NDC Candidate winning in the Adansi Akrofrom Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
