Regular checkups key to early breast cancer detection – Dr. Dzikunu urges Men to support partners
The President of the Health CEOs and Scientists Network, Dr. Kwame Dzikunu, has stressed the need for regular breast cancer screening for early detection and treatment.
Speaking to the media at the African Health CEOs Awards in Accra, Dr. Dzikunu described breast cancer as a very serious condition and called on women to prioritize regular checkups.
According to him, breast cancer often shows no pain or symptoms at its early stage, which makes regular screening critical. “Some of these breast cancer cases don’t have any pain, doesn’t have any symptoms. You are there all of a sudden; it comes. But when you do regular checkup, if nothing at all, probably on your birthday, you go to check,” he said.
He added that early detection allows for quick intervention. “If there is anything, quickly detect and then you can rectify it. He urged men to support and remind their wives and loved ones to go for regular screening, including through breast examination.
He disclosed that the Health CEOs and Scientists Network is conducting research into breast cancer treatment, working with experts in complementary, alternative and allopathic medicine to find a more effective solution. “We are still doing research on breast cancer to have a serious solution… either we minimize it or be able to eradicate it at all,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that just like malaria which was once a major killer but now has treatment, a lasting solution to breast cancer can be found.
