Ashalaja: One suspected breast cancer case detected during free screening exercise

One suspected case of breast cancer has been identified among 69 people screened during a free breast cancer screening exercise at Ashalaja in the Domeabra-Obom Constituency of the Ga South Municipality.

The exercise was organised by philanthropist and community resident, Hon. Emmanuel Nii Commey, in collaboration with Sonotec Medical and Diagnostic Centre, to improve access to breast health screening and raise awareness about the importance of early detection.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, the medical officer in charge, Dr. Samuel Agbeko, confirmed that one suspected case had been recorded among the 69 people screened.

He urged women to prioritise their breast health by undergoing regular medical check-ups, emphasising that early detection and timely treatment could help prevent complications associated with breast cancer.

Dr. Agbeko noted that seeking medical attention promptly was essential to improving treatment outcomes and reducing the risk of severe consequences, including the possible loss of a breast.

Meanwhile, Madam Mercy Commey, who spoke on behalf of Hon. Emmanuel Nii Commey, encouraged women in the community to take their health seriously, particularly by paying attention to breast cancer prevention, screening and early diagnosis.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hon. Emmanuel Nii Commey for organising the initiative, describing it as a valuable intervention that had brought an important healthcare service closer to residents.

They noted that it was the first time such a breast cancer screening exercise had been organised in the constituency and commended the organisers for prioritising the health and well-being of community members.

The initiative forms part of efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage residents to seek early medical attention when they notice unusual changes in their breasts.
