Make Waste Bins Mandatory In Road Construction – Magvlyn CEO Tells Government

The Chief Executive Officer of Magvlyn Industries Limited, Mr. Magnus Nunoo, has called on government to make the provision of waste bins a mandatory requirement in national road infrastructure planning.

According to him, just as provision is made for drainage systems and road markings, bins should also be factored into road construction.

Mr. Nunoo made the call at the 30th Anniversary Cocktail Reception of Magvlyn Industries Limited held at the La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra.

He said effective waste management begins with the availability of waste bins, noting that international best practice requires bins to be spaced at a maximum of 50 meters apart on both sides of the road, translating to up to 40 bins per kilometre.

Speaking on environmental pollution associated with sachet water, Mr. Nunoo said it may be more of a perception than reality.

“We are often told that sachet water is a menace to the environment. With respect, I say that may be a perception, maybe not a reality,” he stated.

He warned that without adequate bins, open drains will continue to serve as alternative dustbins.

“For as long as there are no bins on our roads, our open drains will remain the alternative dustbins, and the provision of bins alone is not enough,” he stressed.
