Obuasi SHTS set to reopen to continuing students after months of closure

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) are expected to return to school next week as preparations for the resumption of academic activities reach an advanced stage.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said management was making the necessary arrangements to facilitate the students’ return.

Obuasi SHTS was temporarily closed to continuing students on August 5, 2026, following disturbances on campus.

However, first-year students have remained in school since reporting on September 18, according to the GES.

Although management has yet to announce a specific reopening date, it expressed confidence that the preparations would be completed in time for continuing students to resume academic work next week.

“Management assures that preparations are far advanced for continuing students to return to school sometime next week,” the statement said.

The planned reopening is expected to allow the affected students to return to the classroom after months away from school following the campus disturbances.
