Obuasi SHTS case: Police forward docket to Attorney General for advice

The Bekwai Police have completed investigations into a rape complaint against the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, and forwarded the case docket to the Attorney General for advice.

Bekwai Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, disclosed this in an interview with Adom FM, stating that the Ashanti South Police Command was awaiting further directives from the Attorney General before determining the next course of action.

“We have investigated the matter and submitted the docket to the Attorney General for advice for us to follow up. So we are waiting for the Attorney General’s instruction and what further investigation will reveal for us to prosecute or not,” ASP Baidoo said.

He stressed that the police would act in accordance with the Attorney General’s advice and any subsequent instructions regarding the case.

ASP Baidoo clarified that the docket submitted for review concerns a single complaint lodged by a student on August 4, 2026.

He explained that Abdulai was arrested following the complaint, subsequently granted bail and is currently at home.

The police spokesperson also dismissed reports suggesting that the headmaster had been arrested again.

“The headmaster is home, and to the best of my knowledge, he has not been arrested. Nothing of that sort has happened,” he said.

Addressing allegations involving other students, ASP Baidoo said those claims were not covered by the case currently before the Attorney General.

He noted that the police would initiate separate investigations if additional complaints were formally reported or otherwise brought to their attention.

“In respect of the other matters involving the 19 girls that you are talking about, if they come to police notice, police will subsequently move in and investigate the matter,” he explained.

ASP Baidoo reiterated that any additional allegations would be handled separately from the existing complaint, with investigations conducted as required.

The case comes amid heightened public scrutiny of allegations of sexual misconduct at Obuasi SHTS and renewed calls for accountability and stronger measures to protect students in schools.
