Kasoa: 12-year-old boy found dead at Opeikuma Vat; mother suspected

A 12-year-old boy has been found dead in a bush behind a building fence at Opeikuma Vat in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, with his mother allegedly linked to the incident.

The mother, identified as Gifty, is suspected of killing the child, although the circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been independently confirmed.

According to accounts from residents, the woman allegedly chased the boy from their home before catching up with him and engaging him in a struggle.

She is further alleged to have killed the child and attempted to conceal his body in a muddy, water-filled pit.

Speaking to Oyerepa Central Regional Correspondent Nana Ansah Matthew, a resident, Madam Comfort Yaboah, said Gifty had previously been taken by her family for treatment following concerns about her mental health.

She explained that the woman appeared to have returned to her usual behaviour after the treatment but allegedly began exhibiting unusual behaviour again.

Madam Yaboah further alleged that the suspect chased her son, killed him and placed part of his body in the muddy pit, covering his head with a plastic container.

The incident has left residents concerned, as questions remain about the circumstances leading to the boy’s death.

Further details about the incident, including the outcome of any police investigation, have not yet been established.
