Yaw Dabo pays surprise visit to former president Kufuor
Ghanaian actor and football enthusiast Yaw Dabo has paid a light-hearted visit to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, introducing himself to the former statesman by his new nickname, “John Telly.”
Yaw Dabo, whose real name is Samuel Kwabena Yaw Dabo, visited the former president at his residence on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, where he entertained Kufuor with jokes about his growing association with the name, which is inspired by legendary Chelsea and England defender John Terry.
The actor explained that the nickname has become popular among his fans, with people allegedly calling him “John Telly” wherever they meet him.
“John Telly has come to visit his grandfather. Now my name is Big Mind, A.K.A. John Telly. Everywhere I go now, people call me John Telly,” he said.
Taking the joke further, Yaw Dabo told the former president that he intends to bring John Terry to Ghana so the retired football star can personally meet Kufuor.
“I’m planning on bringing John Terry to Ghana soon, and I will bring him to greet you. I’ve put him on all my buses,” he added.
The playful exchange reflected Yaw Dabo’s long-standing passion for football and his humorous personality, with the actor affectionately referring to the former president as his “grandfather.”
The visit ultimately blended football, comedy and admiration for one of Ghana’s former leaders, while giving Yaw Dabo an opportunity to share his latest “John Telly” identity with John Agyekum Kufuor himself.
