Stars go wild after Ghana’s last-minute 1-0 triumph
Ghana’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers sparked massive excitement across the country, with several well-known personalities in the entertainment industry flooding social media with emotional reactions and patriotic messages.
The Black Stars secured all three points in a tense Group L encounter after midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi scored deep into stoppage time to seal a memorable win for Ghana in rainy Toronto. The dramatic finish instantly sent fans into celebration both at the stadium and online, with many celebrities joining the nationwide excitement.
Among the earliest public figures to react was award-winning dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale. While the game was still goalless, the musician confidently predicted that Ghana would grind out a narrow victory. Moments after the final whistle, his prediction came true, prompting him to celebrate online while revealing plans to release a motivational song dedicated to the Black Stars and Ghanaians.
Rapper Linford Kennedy Amankwaa, known in showbiz circles as Kojo Cue, also praised the determination displayed by the national team. He singled out Brandon Thomas-Asante, Caleb Yirenkyi, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for their work rate and commitment throughout the match, insisting their hunger and resilience inspired the team’s hard-fought triumph.
Several other musicians also shared congratulatory messages after the victory. They included Cina Soul, Kwesi Arthur, Kweku Flick, M.anifest, Mr Eazi, D-Black, Peter Okoye of P-Square, Stonebwoy, Lasmid, Medikal, and King Promise.
Media personalities Nana Aba Anamoah, Berla Mundi, and DJ Slim were equally vocal online as they celebrated the victory and applauded the fighting spirit of the Black Stars.
Actress Joselyn Dumas, socialite Efia Odo, Chef Abbys, celebrated video director Babs Direction, sound engineer Andrews Nii Commey Otoo (Streebeatz), as well as Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune, all joined thousands of supporters in applauding Ghana’s spirited display.
Beyond the result on the pitch, Ghanaian music also enjoyed international attention during the match as songs from local artistes echoed throughout the packed Boston Stadium. Tracks such as “Kakalika” by music duo DopeNation, “Black Stars” Kofi Kinaata, and Stonebwoy’s “GIDI GIDI (Fire)” energized supporters inside the stadium and added to the electric atmosphere among over 42,000 spectators.
The Black Stars had struggled to break down a resilient Panama side for most of the game until a swift counterattack in added time found Caleb Yirenkyi, who calmly tapped home the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The goal handed Ghana a priceless victory and strengthened confidence among supporters ahead of the remaining qualification matches.
The dramatic win has not only revived belief in the national team but also highlighted the strong connection between football and Ghana’s entertainment industry, with celebrities using their platforms to rally support for the Black Stars as the country pushes toward another FIFA World Cup appearance.

Brandon changed the game. Yirenkyi immense. Fatawu more productive than Nuamah. We really missed a player like Kudus.
England next. We have Partey Back. Let’s see if that helps.
