A two-year-old girl has died after she was trapped inside a house that caught fire at Cantonments in Accra.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, at a residence near Susanna Lodge, where the child was inside the building when the fire broke out.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said firefighters found the girl dead at the scene after she was unable to escape the burning building.

Assistant Divisional Officer of the GNFS, Alex King Nartey, confirmed the incident in a post on Facebook.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is expected to be established as investigations continue.

The remains of the deceased have since been handed over to the Cantonments Police for the necessary procedures.

The incident has left the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the fire and the child’s inability to escape under investigation.
