LilWin explains Ghana Movie Awards absence despite big wins

Management of Ghanaian actor, filmmaker and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known in showbiz as LilWin, has issued an apology following his absence at the 15th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards, where he still emerged as one of the night’s most decorated winners.

According to a statement released by his Public Relations Manager, Okyeame Akwaada Nyame, the actor could not attend the ceremony due to a previously arranged professional commitment that had been fixed before he was officially contacted by the organisers.

The statement expressed regret over his absence, noting that both LilWin and his team hold the awards scheme in high esteem and did not intend any form of disrespect to the organisers, fellow nominees or fans.

“We sincerely apologise to the organisers, fellow nominees and the general public for LilWin’s absence on the awards night. Due to a prior professional commitment booked before the organisers reached out to them, he was unable to attend,” parts of the statement indicated.

Despite missing the event, the team expressed gratitude for the recognition he received on the night, revealing that LilWin was awarded Best Actor in a Leading Role, along with two additional honours at the 2026 edition of the ceremony.

“We are immensely honoured that LilWin was announced as BEST ACTOR in a Leading Role and received two additional awards at this year’s edition. These recognitions are a testament to the hard work, dedication and passion that our team pours into the craft of storytelling,” the statement added.

Beyond the apology and appreciation, the management used the opportunity to call for stronger institutional support for Ghana’s film industry, stressing the need to uplift both established names and emerging creatives.

They further expressed hope that the Ghana Movie Awards would evolve into a more expansive annual celebration that consistently recognises talent across all levels, not only those present at the main ceremony.

“It is our prayer that the Ghana Movie Awards will grow into an annual festival event that not only celebrates leading actors and filmmakers who show up on the night but also consistently acknowledges young and emerging talents for their invaluable contributions to our industry. Only by uplifting every stakeholder regardless of their status can we truly unite and rebuild Ghana movie,” the statement noted.

The statement concluded with appreciation to fans and supporters of LilWin and Wezzyempire Movie Productions, with a renewed pledge to contribute to the revival of the Ghanaian film industry.

“We thank the good people of Ghana for their continued trust and belief in the actor LilWin and Wezzyempire Movie Productions. We promise to work even harder, collaborate with all players and champion initiatives that will bring our beloved movie industry back to its golden glory. Together, let us make Ghana film great again,” it concluded.

LilWin, born Kwadwo Nkansah, remains one of Ghana’s most popular comic actors and producers, with a strong influence in local cinema through his Wezzyempire brand.
