Transport operators have thanked the DVLA CEO, Julius Neequaye Kotey, for planning a specialised hospital for drivers to address their healthcare needs.
David Agboado , PRO of Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana said the initiative is a much-needed boost for drivers’ welfare.
According to him, sometimes if an accident occurs, especially for Okada riders, they go to the hospital and they end up cutting off a leg. But if they had a driver’s hospital, this wouldn’t happen.
“Sometimes if an accident occurs, they don’t have any place to go… Where lies we that are dying every day every minute? Where is our hospital?” Agboado asked, highlighting the lack of dedicated facilities for drivers.
To him, the proposed hospital would specialize in treating accident-related conditions, saving lives. Agboado called on corporate institutions and transport operators to support the plan.
Paa Willie, President of Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, welcomed the DVLA’s plan for a drivers’ hospital, saying it’s a much-needed initiative.
“Police, Military, and Banks have their own hospitals, but drivers don’t,” he noted. He expressed gratitude to the DVLA CEO for the idea, adding that drivers and their families often struggle to find healthcare when needed.
According to Paa Willie, the drivers are willing to contribute to the project, even if it means adding ₵1 to their driver’s license fee.
He commended the Transport Minister and President John Mahama for bringing the initiative forward, saying it will ease drivers’ problems.
