The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has expressed alarm over the increasing number of road accidents in the country, citing excessive daily sales targets imposed on commercial drivers as a major contributor.
In a statement endorsed by National Chairman Paa Willie, Central Regional Chairman Kwesi Arhin, and Greater Accra Regional Chairman Nii Ashi, the Association highlighted that many of the recent crashes involve commercial vehicles.
The Association says drivers are being forced to engage in unsafe practices to meet unrealistic financial demands set by vehicle owners.
“C-DAG has observed that the imposition of exorbitant daily sales targets by some car owners is a major factor contributing to these accidents,” the statement said.
Drivers are working long hours, speeding, and taking risks to meet these targets, endangering lives.
The group is urging vehicle owners to reconsider daily sales targets, saying moderation can reduce road crashes. “Easing this burden will relieve drivers of undue pressure and contribute significantly to saving lives on our roads,” C-DAG said.
The Association also warned against overspeeding with Toyota Voxy vehicles, saying they’re prone to reckless driving if not controlled. C-DAG is calling on members and transport unions to prioritize safety over financial targets.
The group is also urging the government to invest in alternative transport systems, like rail and water transport, to reduce pressure on roads.
