A six-member delegation from the Assemblies of God, Ghana, led by Rev. Stephen Wengam, has paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff CDS, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, at the Military Headquarters in Accra.
The visit was aimed at congratulating Lt. Gen. Agyapong on his appointment, informing him about the upcoming 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress, and sharing the rich history and activities of the church.
The delegation, which included Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, General Secretary of Assemblies of God, Ghana; Rev. Dr. Simon Abu Baba, General Treasurer of Assemblies of God, Ghana; Rev. Michael Ayesu, Regional Superintendent of Greater Accra West; Rev. Dr. Albert Anane, Regional Superintendent of Eastern Region “A”; and Rev. Ernest Agyei, a retired Senior Pastor of Assemblies of God, Ghana, was warmly received by Lt. Gen. Agyapong.
Rev. Wengam explained that the support of the Ghana Armed Forces would be crucial as the church prepares to celebrate its centenary and host the 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress. He expressed the church’s desire for the military’s assistance in maintaining peace and security during the event.

Rev. Wengam also condoled with Lt. Gen. Agyapong over the recent stampede incident at the El Wak Stadium and appreciated the measures being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
In response, Lt. Gen. Agyapong assured the church of the military’s support and collaboration, requesting continuous prayers for the Ghana Armed Forces.
He acknowledged the stampede incident as unfortunate but emphasized that lessons had been learned and corrective measures implemented.
The meeting concluded with prayers and the exchange of presentations, symbolizing the continued partnership between the church and the Ghana Armed Forces.
