The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to challenge the decision ordering a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election.
Speaking during the launch of the party’s 2025 Constitution Amendment on December 3, 2025, at the NPP headquarters, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua insisted that the party legitimately won the seat and would therefore appeal the ruling.
“Mr Chairman, on December 7, 2024, results from all 152 polling stations in Kpandai were counted, announced, and declared by the Electoral Commission,” Kodua affirmed.
According to him, the NPP’s candidate, Matthew Nyindam, secured 27,947 votes against the NDC candidate’s 24,213 votes, making the court’s decision to order a fresh election unjustified.
He also dismissed claims that the NDC candidate lacked representation at the collation centre, clarifying that the NDC’s regional secretary was present even though the party’s parliamentary candidate failed to show up.
“The NDC parliamentary candidate did not appear at the collation centre because he knew he had lost,” Kodua asserted.
Kodua further criticised the High Court ruling delivered on November 24, 2025, arguing that the judge went beyond the 41 polling stations contested by the NDC and disregarded the results from all 152 stations.
“It was expected that the ruling would focus on the 41 polling stations before the court, but surprisingly, the judge ignored the results from all 152 polling stations. This is abysmal and disheartening to our democracy,” he said.
He stressed that the NPP remains committed to the rule of law and will pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
“As a party that believes in due process, we have decided to file an appeal and challenge the jurisdiction of the High Court in this matter,” he added.
