The Pokuase Dunyo Branch of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has extended a helping hand to 11 inmates at the Nsawam Prisons, paying their fines to secure their release. This generous act was part of the church’s Women’s Fellowship Week celebration activities.
District Associate Pastor of Pokuase, Pastor Desmond Owusu Ofori, advised the youth to refrain from actions that could lead to imprisonment. He urged them to work hard and avoid chaos, emphasizing that prison is not a desirable place, citing the overcrowded conditions.
Pastor Ofori cautioned the youth to control their temper and avoid actions that could land them in prison. He shared that some inmates were imprisoned due to uncontrollable anger, citing instances where individuals pushed their partners in a fit of rage, resulting in unfortunate consequences.

According to Pokuase District Elder, Daniel Asare, the church was moved by stories of individuals languishing in prison due to unpaid fines, prompting them to take action.
The Women’s Fellowship has been actively involved in community support initiatives, and this time, they chose to assist inmates serving jail terms due to fines they couldn’t afford.
The fines paid ranged from GHC 800 to GHC 4,500, totaling GHC 40,000. Elder Asare expressed hope that the freed inmates would reintegrate with their families and loved ones, maintaining good behavior and avoiding actions that could lead them back to prison.
Madam Charlotte Dankwa, Leader of the Dunyo Women’s Fellowship, told Oyerepa News that the inmates shared with her the harsh realities of prison life. She said they were deeply grateful and had pledged to make a fresh start.
Dankwa encouraged the beneficiaries to steer clear of any behavior or associations that could lead them back to prison, emphasizing the importance of staying on the right path.
The released inmates praised the church for their timely intervention, acknowledging the lessons learned and committing to live responsibly to avoid returning to prison.
