Energy Ministry Confirms Damage to Aboadze–Tarkwa Transmission Line; Repair Works Underway
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that a section of the 161 kV Aboadze–Tarkwa transmission line, operated by the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo), has been damaged — a situation that could temporarily affect electricity supply in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said a maintenance team has been dispatched to the site to carry out urgent repair works.
“The maintenance team has been swiftly deployed and is currently at the location, working diligently to repair the line as quickly as possible,” the statement noted.
The Ministry indicated that technical assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage and restore full transmission capacity in the shortest possible time.
Preliminary findings suggest that Kumasi and Tarkwa may experience temporary power disruptions as the repairs continue.
“The analysis highlights the possibility of supply interruptions in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions within this short period, precisely Kumasi and Tarkwa,” the statement added.
The Ministry apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to restore stable power supply.
“We wish to assure the general public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalise the situation,” it said.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a stable, reliable, and efficient power supply across the country despite the current setback.
