Scores of Students of Tamale Technical University on Tuesday, September 16 protested against management of the school over what they describe as neglect, misappropriation, mismanagement of the schools funds and unjustified fee increment.
The students blocked all entry points of the school and also burnt lorry tyres at the administration to register their displeasure.
The students further clashed with police who were brought to restore calm on campus. Some students sustained injuries after the clash.

Musa Mahamudu, Public Relations Officer of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of Tamale Technical University in an interview with the media explained that the demonstration was to press home their demand for better welfare for students and development of the university.
“Our main aim for this demonstration is the issue we have at hand with management. Which has to do with the compressing issues that affect student in this university.
“Let’s talk about hostels, lecture halls, campus comfortability etc. Over the years, we have been paying school fees and there are levies for development supposed to development this university,” he stated.

The students further petitioned the Education Minister to address their grievances.
“We are compelled to bring to your urgent attention issues of systematic neglect of student’s welfare, alleged misapplication of funds and the proposed increment of fees without justification.
“These actions in our view contravenes the principle equity of accountability and quality education enshrined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana,” portions of the petition read.

They say the school’s infrastructure is in a deplorable state despite paying of levies and fees. They are calling on management to ensure judicious use of the monies paid by students.
