The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that the remains of the eight individuals who perished in the tragic Z-9 military helicopter crash near Sikaman, close to Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, have been transported to Accra.
The bodies were airlifted on Wednesday, August 6, aboard a Ghana Air Force Casa aircraft and received with solemnity at the Air Force Base in Accra. A government delegation led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, along with members of the Military High Command and other sympathisers, was present to receive the fallen.
In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, it was announced that the remains have been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital, where burial arrangements are set to commence.
“We express our gratitude to the people of Sikaman and the various security services for their cooperation during the recovery operation,” the statement said.
The incident has triggered a wave of national mourning, as citizens pay tribute to the servicemen and government officials who lost their lives while on duty.
Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, speaking on behalf of the Military High Command, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and described the tragedy as a profound national loss.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this painful period,” he said.
An investigation into the cause of the helicopter crash is currently underway.
