A fire outbreak on Monday evening destroyed the housemaster’s residence at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The blaze, which started around 6:30 p.m., completely gutted the residence—reducing the roof, ceiling, furniture, personal belongings, and home appliances to ashes.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a nearby boys’ dormitory was saved from the flames. Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene, with the first arriving at 6:34 p.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 7:24 p.m. and fully extinguished it by 8:29 p.m.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
Preliminary investigations by GNFS point to a possible electrical fault in the ceiling as the cause of the fire. A full investigation is currently underway to confirm the exact origin of the incident.
This is the third fire reported at a public institution within the last 24 hours, raising concerns about fire safety measures and preparedness on school campuses.
School authorities have praised the Ghana National Fire Service for their prompt and effective response, which prevented a more severe disaster.
