The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has announced plans to evacuate all Ghanaian nationals currently residing in Iran, following the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the announcement in a statement shared via social media on Monday, June 16, 2025.
According to the Minister, the evacuation operation will be conducted through Iran’s land borders and will cover all Ghanaian citizens, including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.
He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of every Ghanaian abroad, stressing that developments in the Israel-Iran conflict are being monitored closely and further guidance will be provided as the situation evolves.
As a precautionary measure, Ghana’s embassy in Tehran has been temporarily closed with immediate effect to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel.
The crisis between Israel and Iran has now entered its fourth day, with both nations exchanging heavy missile fire. Despite increasing international appeals for diplomacy and de-escalation, the hostilities continue to escalate.
Reports from international media confirm that Iran launched a fresh wave of strikes early Monday, targeting key infrastructure in Israel, including an oil refinery and parts of the national power grid, intensifying concerns over regional stability.
The Ministry has urged all Ghanaians in the affected region to remain calm, follow official instructions, and prioritize their safety as evacuation plans are rolled out.
