The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has officially suspended its week-long strike to allow continued dialogue with the government over the implementation of its Collective Agreement.
In a statement released on Friday, June 13, 2025, GRNMA President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo announced that all members are to resume their regular duties starting Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The decision follows a productive meeting held on Thursday, June 12, with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other key stakeholders. According to the GRNMA, the discussions were constructive and created a pathway toward a peaceful resolution of the ongoing impasse.
“We are thankful to the Chairman, Ranking Member, and other members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health for their timely intervention to set a clear framework for the implementation of our Collective Agreement,” the GRNMA said in its statement.
While suspending the strike, the association assured its members that leadership remains committed to ensuring that the full terms of the Collective Agreement are honored.
“We will not rest on our oars until the Collective Agreement is fully implemented,” the statement emphasized.
The GRNMA strike, which began a week earlier, was in protest over delays in implementing negotiated benefits and conditions of service. The association’s leadership is now hopeful that the latest round of discussions will lead to lasting solutions that address the concerns of nurses and midwives across the country.
