The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, has extended a generous gesture to the Kumasi Central Prison by donating 25 bags of rice ahead of the Easter celebrations.
The donation, made on Tuesday, comes as part of the Mayor’s broader community outreach efforts.
Speaking to Oyerepafmonline.com, the Mayor explained that his team had initially gone to select 50 inmates to assist in a city-wide cleaning exercise but soon discovered that the facility was in need of food supplies.

“As Easter approached, we learned that the inmates were not having rice . I decided to support them by supplying rice for the celebration,” he said. He further revealed that his wife has pledged to contribute additional food items, including cooking oil, to complement the donation.
The Mayor used the occasion to appeal to individuals, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to extend similar support to inmates across the country.
“Not everyone in prison is a bad person or a criminal. I know someone personally who is in prison but doesn’t deserve to be there. Any form of help that brings them joy, no matter how small, is appreciated,” he added.

Mayor Boadi also pledged to make regular visits to the inmates as part of his commitment to supporting their welfare.
Chief Superintendent Kofi Takyi Agyei, who received the items on behalf of the Ghana Prison Service, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture.

“On behalf of the Ghana Prison Service, I thank the Mayor for this kind donation. The rice will go a long way to support the inmates during Easter,” he said.
He also appealed to the public for continued support, revealing that the government allocates just GHC1.80 pesewas per inmate per day for meals a figure he described as inadequate.
“Our doors are open to anyone willing to support us,” he added.
