Two people have been shot dead in Atuba, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025, claimed the lives of Mohammed, a veterinary officer, and a local pastor.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it is suspected to be linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict, further escalating tensions in the area.
According to reports by Accra-based Citi News, unknown gunmen stormed a busy marketplace on motorbikes and opened fire on traders, killing the two on the spot.
Since the resurgence of the Bawku conflict in October 2024, at least 76 people have lost their lives, prompting renewed calls for a lasting solution.
Amid ongoing appeals for calm, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has initiated mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace.
