The Bole Chief Imam, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, has issued a directive prohibiting lavish wedding celebrations that deviate from Islamic teachings in the Bole area of the Savannah Region.
The ban, which applies to all weddings within his jurisdiction, requires all local Imams to enforce the new regulation.
The decision aims to curb practices such as music and dancing, which contradict Islamic principles, and to ease the financial burden imposed by expensive wedding customs—especially on grooms.
Emphasizing the importance of modesty, the Chief Imam stated that Islamic weddings should be simple and financially accessible to ensure that economic constraints do not discourage young Muslims from marrying.
The directive has sparked mixed reactions within the community. While some applaud it as a move to uphold Islamic values and promote modesty, others argue that it may infringe on personal choices and cultural traditions.
Despite the differing opinions, the Chief Imam remains resolute in his commitment to maintaining religious discipline and fostering a more inclusive approach to marriage in the district.
