Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has expressed optimism about Ghana’s future following President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Speaking after the president’s address—his first in his second term—Ayariga acknowledged the economic hardships but emphasized the renewed hope President Mahama’s speech has instilled in Ghanaians.
“Mr. Speaker, what has happened to our economy and our country, and the presentation that has been made, says it all. It is sad. It is unfortunate, but His Excellency the President has brought us hope,” Ayariga stated.
He noted that the address resonated with various segments of society, including the youth, women, Okada riders, the private sector, students, and ordinary citizens. According to him, the widespread support for Mahama’s leadership demonstrates the public’s trust in his vision for national recovery.
“Mr. Speaker, we have no doubt that everything outlined here gives hope, and this house will support His Excellency to deliver on his commitment,” he affirmed.
Ayariga also stressed the importance of accountability, stating that those responsible for the country’s economic challenges must be held to account.
“More importantly, this house will support His Excellency to deliver on the promise of accountability. Those who so damage our economy must be held accountable,” he declared.
His remarks highlight Parliament’s readiness to work alongside the Mahama administration to implement policies aimed at restoring economic stability and national progress.
