The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has denied any involvement in the reported raid at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, insisting that the incident was staged to mislead the public.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng accused Ofori-Atta of orchestrating the raid in an attempt to discredit the OSP’s investigations. He emphasized that the office had no role in the incident and that any claims suggesting otherwise were false.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, or on any other day. The OSP did not send any person, however uniformed, to raid your house. That could not have been the OSP, and that is not our style. If the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt as to where we have come from, and your lawyers will not have to inquire whether it was the OSP,” Agyebeng stated.
He further explained that the OSP follows strict procedures when conducting searches, ensuring that their presence is always clear and transparent.
The reported raid occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Cantonments. At the time, Ofori-Atta was said to be in the United States for medical treatment, though his wife and other relatives were present. Eyewitnesses claimed that the group involved consisted of about 12 individuals—five dressed in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes.
Despite claims that Ofori-Atta had left the country for medical reasons, Agyebeng dismissed suggestions that he was unavailable for questioning.
“God forbid, I don’t have issues with anybody. This is nothing personal. I did not assume this office or swear an oath to defend the constitution to pursue a personal vendetta,” he stated.
The OSP has declared Ofori-Atta a suspect in multiple corruption cases and is calling for his immediate return to face questioning.
