Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has apologized to the public and the Speaker of Parliament for the chaos that erupted during Thursday night’s vetting session.
Tensions ran high on January 30, as clashes between members of the Minority and Majority caucuses disrupted the vetting of Health Minister-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The commotion resulted in damage to parliamentary furniture, drawing widespread condemnation from Ghanaians who criticized the lawmakers for their conduct.
Before proceedings resumed on Friday, January 31, 2025, Ahiafor addressed the disruption in his opening remarks, reaffirming the Committee’s commitment to upholding and strengthening the country’s democracy.
“What happened last night is totally unacceptable. The Committee extends its apologies to the Speaker and the general public, and we remain committed to working towards the growth of our democracy,” he stated.
