Social activist and legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor has apologized to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for a social media post that members of the committee viewed as an attack on their reputations.
In his apology, Barker-Vormawor clarified that the post was not intended to insult the committee or accuse its members of engaging in corrupt practices.
“Mr. Chairman, I am saying here clearly that my post was not intended to disparage members of the committee and I have not intended to say that members of this committee have received or demanded bribes from various individuals. At no point was my statement intended to communicate the same, and for those reasons, I apologize,” he said.
Earlier, Barker-Vormawor’s lawyer, Nana Ato Dadzie, had stated that the allegations made by his client were not aimed at the Appointments Committee.
Appearing before the 11-member committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, after being summoned, Dadzie explained that Barker-Vormawor’s comments were intended as a form of whistleblowing.
“It was completely not directed at the Appointments Committee. It was only intended to expose certain matters that had come to his notice, which alleged some people were apparently on the banner of the Appointments Committee, engaging in other acts,” Dadzie clarified.
The apology and clarification came as the activist sought to resolve the matter amid the public and political backlash surrounding his controversial social media post.
