The leadership of Kantamanto market has expressed suspicions that the recent fire outbreak that ravaged the market was not an accident, but rather a deliberate act of arson.
In an exclusive interview with Oyerepa News reporter Bernard K. Dadzie, Kantamanto Market Chairman Michael Oppong revealed that he believes the recent fire outbreak was intentionally exacerbated by individuals pouring petrol or fuel into the flames, causing it to spread rapidly.
He said the market has a security team in place, which takes over from 6 pm to 6 am when the market is closed. However, on the night of the fire, the security personnel were unable to prevent the outbreak.
Mr Michael Oppong disclosed that they had 180 fire extinguishers on hand, and 60 of these were utilized in an attempt to contain the blaze. However, despite their efforts, the fire continued to spread. Alarmingly, the leadership alleged that the fire service personnel refused to respond after being called to the scene.
The leadership is now calling on individuals, NGOs, and companies to come to their aid, as traders have lost millions of cedis in the fire. They are appealing for financial support and building materials to help rebuild the market.
The incident is currently under investigation, and the leadership is working closely with the authorities to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
