IKSON PROPERTIES Agency Limited, based in Tema, has filed a suit against Mercy Agyei, a banker with the Adum branch of Absa Bank Ghana Limited in Kumasi, accusing her of embezzling GH¢75,000 belonging to the company.
The suit, filed at the Kumasi Circuit Court by Yawson Otoo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IKSON PROPERTIES, seeks an order for the refund of the money with interest from November 2, 2023, until full payment, as well as costs, including legal fees.
Plaintiff’s Claim
According to the plaintiff, Madam Agyei undertook her mandatory industrial attachment at IKSON PROPERTIES between September and November 2019, working in the marketing department.
The plaintiff alleges that on November 2, 2023, the defendant was tasked with collecting GH¢75,000 from Electroland Ghana Limited at Kaase, near Kumasi, on behalf of the company. Madam Agyei allegedly issued an official receipt for the payment but failed to deposit the money into the company’s account, despite claiming she had done so.
An audit of the company’s accounts this year reportedly revealed that the said amount had not been deposited. Following this discovery, a formal complaint was lodged with the Asokwa Divisional Police Command in Kumasi. However, investigations have yet to be concluded for a criminal trial to commence.
Defendant’s Response
Madam Agyei has denied the allegations, asserting that she was no longer affiliated with IKSON PROPERTIES at the time of the incident, as she was already employed at Absa Bank. She claims the CEO only requested her assistance to collect GH¢70,000—not GH¢75,000—from Electroland Ghana Limited.
Describing the plaintiff’s accusations as frivolous and vexatious, she has called on the court to dismiss the case.
Petition for Prosecution
Meanwhile, Yawson Otoo has petitioned the Attorney General’s Department over delays by the Asokwa Divisional Police in prosecuting the case, which has been under investigation since June 2024.
