Prof. Charles Fosu Marfo, a respected Ghanaian academic, has raised concerns about the individuals surrounding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Prof. Marfo, Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at KNUST, praised Bawumia’s noble and nationalistic character but expressed deep-seated fears about the corrupt individuals likely to be appointed as ministers if Bawumia assumes office.
Prof. Marfo’s concerns stem from the fact that these same individuals have been leading Bawumia’s campaign and may be rewarded with ministerial positions, potentially disgracing him. He emphasized the need for a strong leader who can control these corrupt elements and prioritise Ghana’s interests.
“I admire Bawumia’s noble and nationalistic character, but I’m scared of the people around him,” Prof. Marfo said. “These corrupt individuals leading his campaign may be appointed as ministers and disgrace him in the end.”
Prof. Marfo had hoped to see a strong stance against corruption in the NPP manifesto but was disappointed.
He wants a leader who will prioritize Ghana’s interests and take bold action against corrupt individuals.
“I want someone who will be scary. Someone who will control these corrupt people,” Prof. Marfo stated. “The manifesto should have reflected Bawumia’s commitment to tackling corruption and prioritizing Ghana’s interest, but I didn’t see that.”
