Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has renewed his call for a debate with his counterpart from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
Dr. Bawumia seeks to engage in a substantive discussion on pressing issues affecting the nation, including the economy and governance.
The NPP flagbearer has expressed perplexity over John Dramani Mahama’s reluctance to participate in a debate, suggesting that his opponent may be hesitant due to concerns that his policy proposals would be exposed as lacking depth and substance.
“I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, on the country, on governance. But I’m afraid he is running away from a debate.
His people say he doesn’t want a debate. He doesn’t want the debate because he knows that I will expose the emptiness of his policies. He says he has a 24-hour economy that he cannot explain. He’s as empty as an empty barrel. He cannot explain it, none of his people can explain it.
They said they will be exporting lions and elephants but when we meet man to man we can debate and the country will see where our policies lay. We should give the country an opportunity to listen to us. If he chooses not to debate, I will continue to sell my policies,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign, Joyce Bawa Mogtari is of the view that there is nothing to debate.
To her, even though it is not for her to decide, there is nothing to debate considering the poor performance of the current government considering the poor showing of the John Dramani Mahama administration.
