Some angry assembly members of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly have returned the money allegedly given to them by the rejected Cape Coast Mayor, Hon. Ernest Arthur which they claim was gifted to them to lure them to approve the nominee.
The Concerned Assembly Members said they are not in the Metropolitan Assembly to take bribes to confirm the mayor as such an act is illegal.
Addressing the media, the leader of the group Usman Abban emphasized that they rejected the money because they are bent on protecting the integrity of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly as the progress of Cape Coast is at stake.
He said they voted against the President’s nominee for the second time because of his disrespect for the elders of Cape Coast and the staff he works, adding that such attitude will not auger well for the development of the metropolis.
“We took this firm stand on the background that the gentleman in question’s bizarre attitude towards the elders and people of Cape Coast as well as the Technocrats he works with. He executed projects without recourse to the assembly. We also sympathize with our colleague whose appointment he revoked yesterday during our voting at the assembly without any explanation to the assembly members.
“Finally and more importantly, we are here to return monies he presented to us the Concerned Assembly members as a gift to lure us to vote for him since we did not fulfill his wish. We present the full amount,” Usman Abban stated.
