Andy Nana Owusu, a social analyst, has expressed his disappointment in President Akufo-Addo’s efforts to combat illegal mining known locally as galamsey.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made it clear that he is willing to risk his presidency in his determined fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
However, during his presentation of the 2024 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Akufo-Addo failed to address the issue of galamsey.
In response to the president’s silence on the matter during a panel discussion on Oyerepa breakfast time, Andy Nana Owusu pointed out that the problem of galamsey has only worsened under the Akufo-Addo administration.
According to Nana Owusu, he vehemently campaigned against former President Mahama going into the 2016 elections due to the rise of galamsey activities but under President Akufo-Addo, the menace has worsened.
“I’m not the one to say Galamsey’s case has worsened. I campaigned hard against Mahama over Galamsey. The reason I wanted Mahama to be voted out was Galamsey. Nana Addo even put his presidency on the line to fight Galamsey. What pains me is the chanfan machines they are using on our bodies. Galamsey has been in existence for years, but under President Akufo-Addo, it has worsened. The Chinese came in to destroy everything.”
