Ahafoman Senior High School has emerged as the winner of the prestigious 2023 STEMNNOVATION competition, leaving the entire nation awe-struck by their groundbreaking project on the Flexible Utilization of Electricity.

Emerging as the clear winners among 24 other institutions across the nation, they achieved an extraordinary triumph, amassing an impressive score of 164 points.

The Ahafoman SHS team’s innovative approach involved generating electricity through a locally modified generator and accumulator connected to a solar panel, powering a plant-based incubator.

In recognition of their exceptional abilities, the three talented contestants and their coaches have been granted a well-deserved reward: an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan for an esteemed international STEM competition scheduled for next year. Additionally, they have been bestowed with a prestigious four-year full scholarship to pursue their engineering studies at any esteemed university in Ghana.

The remarkable prize package they received encompassed several valuable rewards. Firstly, they were granted a cash award of GH₵50,000 courtesy of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP). Additionally, Omega Computers generously provided them with a state-of-the-art desktop computer. Furthermore, Glico Insurance Company extended GH₵20,000 worth of life insurance coverage to the winners. Lastly, they were also presented with well-deserved medals and a collection of STEM textbooks.

Notably, the three female contestants from the mixed Ahafoman SHS received the prestigious “Girls Team Award” of GH₵5000 from Bountiful Technologies, while their coaches were presented with mobile phones from Motorola.

The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, expressed his utmost excitement regarding the students’ outstanding performance.

Dr. Adutwum highlighted the positive outcomes of the nation’s education reforms and pledged continued efforts to engage stakeholders in revamping the country’s economy through education policies.

In recognition of Ahafoman SHS’s achievement, Dr. Adutwum committed to building a new science laboratory for the school.

The competition, organized by the Ministry of Education and NEIP, offered a remarkable platform for students to exhibit their STEM projects aimed at addressing societal issues. This event marked a significant stride towards fostering educational innovation and progress.
