Economist Nathaniel Dwamena has said that Former President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise of a 24-hour economy initiative is a good idea for the Ghanaian economy but needs fine details.
Mr Dramani Mahama addressed the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on November 7, emphasizing his vision to transform Ghana into a “24-hour economy” should he be reelected as president in the upcoming 2024 election.
Mr Nathaniel Dwamena the president of YAFO Institute alluded that the concept of a 24-hour economy, prevalent in most developed nations, involves three working shifts and offers many advantages: Extending business operating hours beyond the conventional 8 am to 5 pm would substantially reduce unemployment.
He further explained that the need for additional shifts would create job opportunities and provide workers with flexible working hours, fostering a sustainable and productive workforce.
Speaking to Oyerepa TV/ FM reporter Bernard K Dadzie in an exclusive interview in Accra, Mr Nathaniel Dwamena commended the former president John Dramani Mahama for such an initiative and urged him to come out and explain it further to Ghanaians.
“I think it is an opportunity that a country that is seeking to develop should consider because businesses in this country need certain government-to-business services we all know how hard tickets is when you are going for some of these opportunities But we have to get more details as to how he is going to go about it.”
