Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the national chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has sent a strong warning to the Economic Community of West African States {ECOWAS} to act immediately to stop civilian coup d’etat from happening in Ghana.
According to him, ECOWAS shouldn’t close their eyes on this fragrant disregard for the principle of democracy of the rule of law and only jump in when someone overthrows that system.
“You always jump in when someone overthrow and saying you are going to restore democracy. What time of democracy are you going to restoring in the first place?
He therefore called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government to rein in their heads of state. The NDC national chairman believes that the actions of the EC are creating an environment conducive to government overthrow, thus necessitating the need to hold the EC accountable.
“We are signally the peers to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that this is the time he should talk some sense to the heads of his colleagues. They shouldn’t wait till things go bad before they jump up”, he hinted.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia further explained that democracy can tolerate bad governance so long as the means of changing that bad governance is not tempered.
