Eric Afful, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Amanfi West in the Western Region, has stated that Ghanaians need to start an intellectual revolution to overthrow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia.
“All Ghanaians must embark on coupe d’état to overthrow NPP. But this time it should be intellectual coupe d’état, use your thumb to overthrow them in 2024” the lawmaker stated on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Tuesday.
The NDC MP indicated that the current NPP government isn’t doing enough to address issues like corruption, unemployment, economic hardship, and high inflation in the country and that Ghanaians need to rise up and take matters into their own hands.
His comment comes at the back of the flagbearer of NDC, Mr Mahama’s statement at the 44th June 4 anniversary celebrations at Hohoe in the Volta Region, that, the “June 4 uprising occurred for far less than what is happening in Ghana today.”
According to the Amanfi West MP, “Mahama’s assertion is 100% correct.”
He disclosed that “Mahama is not calling for a coup, he’s rather cautioning Ghanaians to be cautious of the NPP and vote against them in 2024.”
However, one will argue that calling for a coup d’état is always a controversial move but, it is important to recognise that Afful is advocating for an intellectual one – meaning he wants people to use their brains, knowledge and thumb to overthrow the NPP government rather than resorting to violence.
