Concerned youth of Wiamoase in Afigya Sekyere South District in the Ashanti region have petitioned the inspector general of police, George Akuffo Dampare, over what they describe as harassment of the youth by the Agona police officers.
According to the youth, after meeting with the Agona traditional council, the police have been apprehending members of their group.
In the petition, the youth accused their chief, Nana Boakye Yiadom, of using the officers at the Agona Police Command to intimidate them.
“Nana Boakye Yiadom is now using Agono Police Command to intimidate, arrest, and prosecute our members over false and malicious charges.”
They further explained that a member of the group, Kwabena Owusu, has been arrested on false charges and since then has been remanded for 2 weeks to reappear before the Agona Magistrate Court on May 16, 2021.
Speaking to oyerepaonline.com, Master Oheneba Abebrese, patron of the group, indicated that they have abandoned their homes because of the police’s baseless arrest.
“We cannot sleep. The police are arresting our members. We have abandoned our home because of that.” We’re calling on IGP Akuffo Dampare to pay attention to the lawlessness and unprofessional conduct of the Agona Police Command under the influence of Nana Boakye Yiadom.” The patron of the group stated.
