The Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin constituency in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should focus mainly on Christian or Akan-dominated communities to break the eight than waste time on Muslim-dominated communities.
According to him, the party gets most votes in the Akan or Christian areas than in Islam communities.
Eugene’s analysis is in relation to a recent comment by Kennedy Agyapong that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration infuriated him by appointing Northerners to influential positions. During his campaign tour in the Western Region of Ghana, Kenedy said, he does not know if Northerners are the only party members who vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to attain such enviable positions.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Friday, April 28, 2023, the Subin Lawmaker indicated that there is empirical evidence that in all the elections the NPP has won, it’s the Akan or Christian-dominated areas that gave them the mandate, not Muslim communities.
“The empirical evidence is that, we derive our political power, support, authority, and existence from Akan-dominated or Christian-dominated areas of this country, and that’s a fact.” He categorically stated.
He disclosed that many people have criticized him for doing tribal and ethnic politics but “In our current politics, we cannot rule out ethnicity or religion.”
According to him the easiest way the NPP can break the eight in 2024 polls is to elect a Christian or Akan flagbearer.
He believes that “The same criteria used to elect former President John Kofi Agyekum Kuffuor and President Akufo-Addo will be used to elect who will lead the party in 2024”
