The Deputy Energy Minister under the current Akufo-Addo regime, Andrew Agyapa Mercer has intimated that former John Mahama is not a threat to the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) going into the 2024 Ghana’s general elections.
The erstwhile president has declared his decision to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to battle the NPP for power in 2024. The NPP on the other hand is keen on retaining power (breaking the eight).
In an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Deputy Energy Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Agyapa Mercer categorically stated that Mahama is not the candidate who can stand the NPP in 2024.
According to him, it will be an easy contest should the NDC decide to bring on John Mahama for the general elections battle.
“I don’t see John Mahama as a threat to NPP.
I’m an NPP man and I can confirm to you that we’re not afraid of John Mahama. In fact, he’s the one we’re looking for…. When he became president how many votes did he get to beat Akufo-Addo? Not up to 50,000 but Nana Akufo-Addo has beaten him more than a million…. on 2 occasions.” Agyapa Mercer said.
He revealed that the NPP is doing everything possible to let Vice President Bawumia lead the party and he believes that, the vice president will slay Mahama and his NDC in the impending 2024 polls.
“In the 2024 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will defeat John Mahama.”
