The NPP member of parliament for Tafo constituency in the Ashanti Region, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has hailed Ghana’s incumbent Speaker of Parliament , Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin for his tremendous efforts in steering the affairs of the legislature.
According to him, Alban Bagbin is the perfect and excellent speaker Ghana has produced in the century.
Speaking in a recent exclusive interview on Oyerepa TV, Ekow Assafuah explained that, although the Speaker comes from the opposition party NDC, yet he has been able to control parliament to the satisfaction of both the majority and minority.
“I think Alban Bagbin is one of the perfect and excellent speakers that we have ever had. Because every speaker has been elected by the government of the day, and so their actions and inactions are always tilted towards the government of the day… If this current speaker, Alban Bagbin, has always been doing the bidden of his political party, as the others have always been doing, both NPP and NDC, can you imagine how this country was going to be governable or not?” He quizzed.
The Tafo legislator wondered if the country could have a speaker of parliament like, Bagbin.
“…He’s my speaker of parliament, probably for the century. Because, this particular speaker of parliament we’ve had, I doubt we might be able to have such a speaker, especially in a short while, because you have a government which has majority members of parliament with the numbers yet, he won…”
Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is Ghana’s 7th Speaker of Parliament under the 4th Republic. He was the Minister for Health under the NDC regime.
