Former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu, has disclosed that his decision to opt-out of the flagbearership race of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020 was upon the advice of the former president, John Kufour.
Prior to the 2020 elections, Kojo Bonus declared his intention to run as the NDC’s presidential candidate. But later, in a statement, Kojo Bonsu, a staunch Mahama supporter who later threw his hat into the ring for the NDC presidential race, said “the decision to opt-out of the race is as a result of considerable deliberation and reflection.”
Speaking with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Kojo Bonsu revealed that, former president Kufour advised him not to contest for the position.
“I was advised by former president Kufour to allow my brother, John Mahama, to go. He said it is not yet time and that it will surely come.” Kojo Bonsu stated.
He has, however, announced his decision to contest the presidential race of the NDC.
According to him, it is about time for an Asante to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the presidency.
He expressed his desire to increase the fortunes of the opposition party to bring the presidency home to Kumasi after the 2024 election.
Nothing, according to the former mayor, will persuade him to abandon his decision to run for president of the NDC.
